Last two crazy weeks

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

It seems like it’s been a while since I wrote and thought a quick update would be good. We had a great easter celebration with church and then had about 25 people over for a late lunch that was great! Afterwards we had some time in prayer just thanking the Lord for what he did on the Cross for us, then gave some praise through singing. Was sweet, not to mention that the next day we didn’t have work as it was “Easter Monday.” Why that is a holiday in France I don’t know, but near everything was closed so we just lounged around and saw two of our friends back off to Switzerland.

les petits canards et mère!

While in Pau with Olivier we walked through this beauitful garden. I took several pictures of it but then here were eleven ducklings. So amazingly carefree and I even got to see a couple fall off that rock into the water (one of the three swimming had just done so). After a few minutes we left and let the little kids get a bit closer. The ducklings had attracted quite a crowd.

Castet Castle

Sweet castle next to a lake, I really loved the atmosphere in the perspective. Otherwise it is a very basic and straight forward photo.

our only hope...

Walking up hill, looking above me, there was this cross perfectly blocking the sun. It’s amazing how with one step in either direction there is so much clarity and definition that is lost in the cross as the sun becomes overwhelming. How in my life for years I was close to knowing Christ as Savior but there was a lack of the same attributes. I don’t know if this piece counts as much as a photo as it is more art. The deep reds and burning feelings of the clouds are real, they are the encroaching truth of our life without Christ. The only opening to heaven is through him, we cannot make it without Jesus.

There is a day coming when darkness will overcome the world, when the light will come from the darkness and the entire world will be fooled into worshiping that, which is nothing more than an illusion. Nothing in this photo will change anything, no one on earth can change anything outside of what God has already ordained before we were born.

sheep herding in the street

In the middle of a very small village nestled in the mountains there were sheep, close to fifty, walking in the street on their way to a new pasture. The mountains are still cold and have a lot of snow, so the grazing animals have been forced to stay down in the valley a bit longer. The sheep wrangler doesn’t seem to mind.

Pathway into the blue, past that ridge

With boughts of hail dampening our spirits slightly I turned to prayer. Praying that the thunderstorms the valley over wouldn’t spill over, and God responded by providing blue sky for our walk down the mountain and the rest of the day. It was amazing. This shot was taken looking back on our way down the mountain and I really liked how the path through the snow winds around.

For post-processing there is more black and white work, as well as some contrast work to bring out the path more in the forground.

A rough compilation of a couple short video clips from this past saturday hiking with Olivier in the mountains near Toulouse. One shot from inside the Cabane de Chérue where we had lunch.
