Got a new phone!

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

New Blackberry 8320Jordan and I went out Friday and purchased a new phone for me.

I went with the Blackberry 8320 (aka the curve). While it was nearly comperable to the HTC-Dash there was one feature that lead me to choose the curve, UMA (or calls over wifi).

So far the phone has been a great purchase. Initially I was a bit dismayed that none of the phones offered by t-mobile offered GPS. After my brother told me how much of a battery hog the GPS chip can be and that Google Maps would still be there, I decided to remove GPS from my list of non-negotiable features.

So real quick review from my last two days with the phone. I’m quite impressed. The wifi works quite well, and the wifi calling sounds better than expected. I’ve yet to try switch from wifi to normal cell calling (I’ve read that it dropped calls at the initial deployment last year).

Email works well, adn setup was super simple, even dedecting the type of accoutns I’m using. Synced up with outlook quite nicely to get all my contacts onto the phone.

I’m looking forward to being in class and not being unaware of support/technical issues that might arise at work.
Thanks for your feedback!

Looking into a new phone

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

So as my business keeps growing its very clear my phone isn’t going to cut it much longer, especially as I am going to be starting up grad school again next week.

I went and stopped by my carrier (T-Mobile) only to discover that they didn’t have a single phone meeting my requirements. So I’m kind of in a hard place and looking for any sort of feedback.

Looking for:

  • Smartphone
  • Wifi Enabled
  • Bluetooth Enabled
  • GPS
  • G3 (would be nice)

I was quite miffed that not a single phone T-Mobile carried in their stores has GPS. For being on of the nations leading cell phone providers it caught me off guard.

Wondering what phone you are using and what your expereince has been. Most likely will stick with T-Mobile and purchase a phone elsewhere at full price.

Looking at Dedicated Hosting Plans

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

So things over at nineteen05 are starting to really get moving. We’re almost to version 0.8 of our software as we’ll be rolling out the bulk of our member management utility in the coming week or two. Over the last week we’ve had two appointments that each have gone really well. Now it’s to followup and just getting everything to play well together.

This leads me to this post. We are needing to move over to a dedicated hosting solution. I have looked at both VPS and Dedicated. We’ve made the decision to go with dedicated for the benefits of having our who unit (which we may run like a vps for our clients) to ensure up-time and that it is only our scripts competing for resources. While this is a more expensive approach, over time we believe that it will be more beneficial for us. I’d really appreciate any feedback from those of you out there who know more about the network administration side of things than I do. (more…)

In the near future I’ll be putting blogging software on the site, and starting a blogs for the sites I host. I’m thinking about using WordpressMU, anyone have any experience with this? I know some people use it for a full fledged CMS. Let me know your thoughts/experiences.

Another Month goes by

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Well I feel really bad that yet another month has gone by and I’ve not written here. Life has been a bit hectic. I’m now a month away from completing my first quarter of grad-school at Bethel. Also am on the verge of launching our companies website (www.nineteen05.com). I’ve been writing a lot of code over the last four weeks getting ready to be able to sell our software and we’re so close now.

Other than that, life is going well. We finally had some warm weather (although it could snow yet again tonight…) and spring is in the air. God is getting ready to do some sweet things in Minneapolis and I can hardly wait.

Until then I’m kind of interested as to who still reads this blog when I post something.

First day of Seminary

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Well day one is down, only another three years to go… haha.

For those of you who don’t know, I started my first day at Bethel Seminary today and it went well. I am still unsure what and were to set my expectations and how I want to go about integrating school, work, and ministry but the process is at least starting. It’s looking like a lot of reading so far.

Today there was a four hour course, and when I got home I had some lunch, then did my course reading for next week, all 190 pages of it. Fortunately it’s a subject that interests me so it wasn’t that bad. On the same note, since it interests me I don’t like speed reading it so the 190 pages took me several hours to get through. Eh, I’m paying for it so I should get something out of it.

On a side note, I have also started up a web company called nineteen05 whose website will hopefully be launching the end of this week. We focus on creating intuitive web-based applications for ministries/non-profits to help them streamline resources and to manage their web-presence. If you’re interested check out www.SubstanceChurch.com for the first site launched using the full software.

I’ll keep more information coming as the company develops and we have product launches and such. Otherwise life is ticking along and God is good.
